Volunteers from a mountain rescue team were called in after a freak accident in North Yorkshire.

Paramedics from the Yorkshire Ambulance Service called in the Scarborough & Ryedale Mountain Rescue after the incident yesterday (Monday).

It happened near Scalby Beck in Scarborough.

A spokesperson for the rescue team said: “We were contacted by Yorkshire Ambulance Service to respond to reports of a 21 year old male having fallen from a rope swing landing on their head, becoming entrapped with a penetrating hand injury and unable to move.

“We had 23 team members responding.

“However as we arrived on scene we learnt that the person had self rescued and was making their way to Scarborough A&E.

“We were deployed for just over one hour.”
