Another shop is about to move into Coppergate, York.
It is opening in the former Oasis fashion store, which has lain empty since the chain collapsed during the pandemic.
Now though it is being fitted out to become a Lucy Pittaway Gallery selling art and gifts.
Lucy is a professional artist from Yorkshire who was named the official artist for the Tour de Yorkshire for three consecutive years in 2016, 2017 and 2018.
She has five galleries in the north of England, and the Coppergate outlet will be her sixth.
The two-storey building is currently being refitted.
Lucy said: “York is such a special place and somewhere I continue to get so much inspiration from, it has a lot to offer and is appealing to a wide range of people as a destination.
“I’m incredibly grateful that my journey has led me here and am confident that locals and visitors will enjoy the bright store front as it’s something different from the existing offering.
“York attracts local and international visitors through its history, attractions, academia and culture which is underpinned by a strong retail offer.
“We hope our gallery offers a refreshed opportunity for locals to love their high street and enhance the experiences for tourists with a further boost to the city’s visitor economy.”
The former Oasis shop was at one stage set to become an indie coffee shop. Its new incarnation continues the revival of Coppergate, following the opening of sofa.com last year.
The gallery is due to open on Saturday 25 March.
