Changes are being brought in to the National Railway Museum entrance from tomorrow (Wednesday, 1 March).
From then, visitors will enter and exit the museum from the Leeman Road entrance close to the main visitor car park.
The road train will now board from the turning circle next to the new main entrance and tickets can be bought inside at the ticket desk.
The ‘city entrance’, previously used as the main way in and out of the museum, has permanently closed.
This is to allow work associated with the construction of a new Central Hall to begin. It is due to open in 2025.
The entrance change is necessary to keep the museum open to visitors while they make large-scale improvements to the museum.
Accessible parking will be relocated to the visitor car park, which is a short distance from the Leeman Road entrance.
Access through the Conference Centre is fully accessible and lifts are in place for visitors with restricted mobility.
Central Hall will sit at the heart of the redesigned National Railway Museum site, the gateway to our transformed museum.
Controversially it will span Leeman road which bisects the museum and unify the site.
