A man climbed over the railings next to the A64 and went into the River Ouse earlier today (Saturday).
Emergency services were called to the scene at Bishopthorpe at 12.53pm.
Police, paramedics and a fire crew from Acomb went to the riverside.
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “A crew from Acomb responded to reports that a male had climbed over railings and entered the river.
“On the arrival of crews, the male was out of the water and in the care of the police.
“Crews assisted the police in providing casualty care to the male whilst awaiting the arrival of ambulance crews.”
