The Good Food Awards have been announced for 2023 – and we have three winners in the heart of York!
These awards “recognise those who strive for culinary excellence within their field”.
Judges said: “We were taken aback by the record number of entrants and votes cast by readers, customers and fans alike. It was heart-warming to see the support our winners received.”
So without further ado, meet the York winners…

Rustique Restaurant, 28 Castlegate
Here you can “experience exquisite French dining in an upbeat bistro atmosphere in the centre of York.” It has long been one of York’s most popular restaurants, serving French favourites like steak frites and ouef á la Basque.
Bettys Café Tea Rooms, 6-8 St Helen’s Square
The multi-award winning historic tea rooms does it again, as its flagship branch wins a Good Food Award Blue Ribbon. You don’t get queues like that unless you’re doing something very right…
Taylor Made Kitchen, Shambles Market
Already one of YorkMix‘s top-rated burger takeaways, the Taylor Made Kitchen has hit new heights with a Good Food Award.
Owner Christian Taylor said: “Using locally sourced ingredients we aim to serve great food from farm to fork!
“I’ve nurtured this idea into bespoke menus for all types of events, from food festivals to weddings and many more in between.
“The food truck revolution is becoming an ever-popular trend to sweep the nation, my aim is to find, cook and serve the finest local produce to the good people of Yorkshire from my Taylor Made Food truck.”
Middlethorpe Hall and Spa, Bishopthorpe Road, York
In addition to the Good Food Awards, the Good Hotel Awards have been announced – with Middlethorpe among them.
A William III country house just two miles from York’s city centre, the hotel and spa is set in 20 acres of its own beautiful gardens and parkland. And it has impeccable standards of service.

The Farrier at Cayton, 89 Main Street, Cayton, North Yorkshire
Situated on the coast between Scarborough and Filey stands the former blacksmiths and inn.
Today, owners the Bushby family say they “have fused their expertise and creativity to develop a variety of dishes that offer exciting food combinations, both modern and traditional, showcasing the best produce that our local farmers and suppliers have to offer.”
