These are the flats set to be built in place of York MotorSports Village at Monks Cross.

The seven-storey apartment block would contain 139 flats for rent.

Planning permission is now being sought, following a public consultation by the team behind the development, York property firm the Oakgate Group and Casa by Moda.

Where the flats would be built

We reported in July that karting attraction York MotorSports Village on Kathryn Avenue was to close to make way for the homes.

Planning documents state: “As the existing use is due to cease operation at the site due to viability pressures post the Covid-19 pandemic, an alternative use for the site needs be found.

“This will ensure that it does not become an eyesore at an important visual gateway to the city’s new stadium.”

They add: “The new stadium village provides a destination where people will want to live, work and become part of the activity that the stadium and the surrounding area provides.”

The 139 flats will be a mix of one and two bedrooms, with “affordable housing to be agreed with local authority”.

A roof area “can be used for residents BBQs, yoga classes and other community building activities.

“With long views across the city and into the stadium it presents a great space for all occupants.”

The flats would include smart technology to enable residents to track their energy usage. And residents would get the MyCasa app, for “maintenance reporting and deliveries, to messaging the concierge and chatting on the local neighbourhood forum”.
