There are still problems this morning at a key York junction.
We reported last night that North Yorkshire Police had urged drivers: “There has been an incident on the A59 roundabout with the A1237 junction.
“Drivers are asked to avoid this area whilst Highways England remove the involved vehicle.”
York police tweeted about the incident at 9.03pm.
Later, at 11.43pm, City of York Council tweeted: “An articulated lorry has jackknifed at the Poppleton roundabout where the A59 meets the A1237.
“A diversion via Poppleton for all York-bound traffic will be in place until *at least* 8 a.m. tomorrow, 1st November. Drivers are advised to avoid the area if possible.”
But the problem was persisting as rush hour built up this morning (Tuesday, 1 November).
YorkMix reader Mark Smith told us that a lorry container had come off and was blocking the A59.
He said: “Lorry container was still on the its side at 5.45am and road closed. Diversion if coming into York down the A59 is taking you down Station Road, Long Ridge Lane and then back onto the A1237 to get back to the roundabout.”
Traffic all around the A59 / A1237 roundabout is very heavy this morning. Rush hour traffic was queuing to Water End in York and nearly to Hessay in the north on the A59.
It is also causing delays for bus passengers.
