Updated: Second man on CCTV identified after York attack that left victim fighting for his life

Police have today (Friday) issued a further update on their investigation into the serious assault on St Saviourgate in York.

A man is fighting for his life after the attack, which took place shortly before 3am on Sunday (23 October).

Yesterday, officers released a set of CCTV pictures of a man they wanted to identify in connection with the incident.

Today they said he had been identified. A force spokesperson thanked members of the public and the media for sharing the appeal.

Earlier in the week, they identified another man from CCTV pictures who they wanted to talk to.

The victim, a man in his 40s, remains in hospital in a critical condition.

York serious assault investigation: Man arrested as police release new CCTV pictures

Police investigating a serious late-night assault in York have issued new CCTV pictures.

The images show a second man they want to talk to in connection with the attack, on St Saviourgate just before 3am on Sunday (23 October).

As YorkMix previously reported, the victim, a man in his 40s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Today police said he is in a critical condition in hospital.

On Monday, detectives released CCTV images of one man they wanted to talk to. He has since been identified.

Today (Thursday), they have released images of another man they want to speak to.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Enquiries are continuing and officers would now like to identify a second man as they believe he will have information which could assist the investigation.”

A 30-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident. He was interviewed and released on conditional bail.
