There was a major response from North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service after fire broke out at a hotel near York tonight (Wednesday).
Fire crews from Tadcaster, Acomb, York and Easingwold were called to York Tadcaster Travelodge at Bilbrough.
The hotel was evacuated as firefighters tackled the fire and checked every room for safety.
Group Manager Bob Hoskins told David Dunning: “It might look quite dramatic, but actually it’s been quite a small fire in a service cupboard within the Travelodge.
“We had to carry out a full search to make sure the building was clear whilst we tackle the fire and make sure that was out.
“So we’ve got quite a few resources here. But I can assure people that the incident itself wasn’t as large as it looks.”
Firefighters were carrying out a full inspection of the voids in the building to make sure there were no hotspots.
“Then we can assist the residents to collect their belongings. They’re going to be rehomed in other hotels for this evening,” Mr Hoskins said.
“There’s a number of issues now – some water damage and the smell of smoke etc from the fire – so we don’t think it’s suitable for people to stay in tonight.
“The hotel are dealing with that, they’ve got plans in place, and hopefully the residents will be well looked after.”
