Police officers have hit out at after a teenager spat in the face of an officer who is also ‘a wife, a mother, a grandmother’.
British Transport Police PC Louise Smith is a familiar face to travellers as she regularly patrols York Station.
Yesterday, BTP North Yorkshire tweeted about her shocking experience at the station.
They wrote: “This is PC Louise Smith. She is a wife. She is a mother. She is a grandmother.
“Last night the 15 year old boy she was arresting turned and spat in her face.
“He’s been charged but there is no sentence that will change the lasting effect it’s had on her.”
Her ordeal prompted a wave of support. One commenter said: “Thank you for all you do Louise and I’m sorry for what you have to deal with in order to keep us safe.”
Another said: “Absolutely appalling! I always see PC Louise Smith when I’m working at York, she’s such a lovely person, always says hello, and always supports LNER colleagues. Hope she’s doing OK.”
A sergeant in the BTP North Yorkshire said: “I’ll personally be attending court to ensure the body worn video is played for the magistrates.”
