York’s newest restaurant opens tomorrow (Thursday) – with a menu to satisfy the most exacting foodie.
York’s only five-star hotel The Grand has revealed Legacy, a stunning new place to dine.
Designed by Faber, the interior combines a very contemporary feel with a nod to York’s heritage.
And the eight course tasting menu, created by head chef Ahmed Abdalla, includes BBQ Langoustine and Trio of Yorkshire Lamb.
It costs £120 per person. You can pair it with a classical wine flight for £60 or prestige wine for £90.
Talking about the vision behind the restaurant, the Grand’s general manager Simon Mahon said: “We were certainly aiming for something which complemented the already fantastic dining scene in York.
“And we want to do that from a culinary point of view, and from a front of house point of view. We have got a beautiful building, a wonderful heritage here at the hotel, which was built in 1906.”

The interior reflects York’s industrial heritage, with “murals, oak panelling, sculptural lighting, industrial ironwork and crisp colour contrasts”.
And the food? “The canapés are absolutely fantastic,” Simon told Ben Fry, of YorkMix Radio.
“Our lamb is amazing. Everything has been sourced from Yorkshire suppliers. So come in and try anything!”
