There has been another water main burst in North Street in Ripon.
It comes after residents lost supply last week and bottled water had to be handed out.
The leader of Ripon City Council, Andrew Williams, is now calling on Yorkshire Water to offer compensation which it says it will do to those eligible.
The new problem is about 20m away from the previous burst in North Street which occurred in a 12inc main.
Yorkshire Water said this afternoon:
“Our pipework has been under a lot of pressure recently – with high peaks of water usage and the dry ground causing soil to contract, which causes pipes to fracture more easily.
“We’ve increased resources in our field teams over the last few weeks, so that we can catch more small leaks before they turn into bursts and fix the big bursts as soon as possible.
“Last week there was a burst on a 12-inch main on North Street, Ripon – we fixed the issue on the same day, but it weakened another area of the pipe, which burst this morning.
“We’re working hard to restore supplies to all of our customers, and will be setting up a bottled water collection point in the meantime.
“We’re grateful to our customers for their patience whilst we fix the issue – those eligible for compensation in relation to the water supply interruption will receive it automatically.”
