The popular gaming shop GAME has announced it is due to close its York city centre store.
Located on Church Street, GAME will be closing on Thursday 1 September.
The news was first revealed shared on their Twitter account yesterday (Thursday).
In the announcement the shop thanked everyone for their support and encouraged people to come by and visit before they go.
GAME is home to lots of geeky goodness, such as game consoles, games for Playstation, Xbox, and Nintendo – as well as toys, board games, and gaming accessories.
It occupied the unit for at least six years. Previously it was home to Rayner Opticians and Game Station.
The gaming arena situated inside GAME, Belong York Vikings, is also due to close on 1 September.
On Twitter they said, “Thank you to all the Vikings for your support over the years!”

Customers were dismayed by the news. “Not a surprise unfortunately, so many people can buy games on Amazon for cheaper and delivered the following day, you just can’t compete,” @Adam__Baines tweeted.
“Will be sad to see it go, was my local. York high street is turning to dust.”
“Don’t be sad because it’s over. Smile because it happened. Banger of a team, banger of a community. I hope one day Game returns to York and the vikings return,” wrote @DatedRhyme.
And @po15on1vy added: “Damn that absolutely sucks.”
The GAME location at Monks Cross remains open.
Staff at GAME York declined to comment, and YorkMix have asked head office for a comment. We will update the story if we get a response.
News of the closure comes after TK Maxx revealed it would be leaving Coney Street on 7 September, to make way for a branch of the Hard Rock Café.
GAME is owned by Frasers Group PLC, owned by Mike Ashley. The group also owns Sports Direct and others.
Frasers Group has been closing a number of GAME outlets in recent weeks, including those in Peterborough and Chelmsford.
