Work to repair the A64 in Rillington is almost done. Yorkshire Water has confirmed that it will reopen in the early hours of tomorrow morning (Thursday 4 August)
These pictures from Max Downing show what had been going on. Meanwhile for the manager at The Coach and Horses it can come soon enough.
Malcolm Boanas says he was on duty on Sunday when they discovered that there was water and sand everywhere and the carriageway was sinking.
The closure of a major route, with congested diversions, is not helpful as 50% of his business is passing trade.
He told YorkMix he would like to thank customers and staff, both on duty and off, who helped him deal with the situation when water started coming into the pub.
Traffic is diverted from Staxton and Malton. This has been putting pressure on the road to Whitby and Thornton-Le-Dale too. Diversions are signposted.
Yorkshire Water gave us this statement (Tuesday)
“The burst main, which has now been repaired, caused significant damage to the carriageway. We would like to thank everyone for their patience whilst our teams are working hard to minimise disruption and reinstate the road.
“We expect it to reopen later this week.”
Today they said that would be Thursday morning early on.
