Fire crews dealt with multiple incidents in North Yorkshire on Tuesday night as the heatwave continues.

Crews from Ripon and Harrogate were called out to a workshop fire on Boroughbridge Road, Bishop Monkton at 5.56pm.

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “The fire caused 100% fire damage to the workshop and its contents. Crews extinguished the fire and dampened down the area.”

An investigation is underway to determine the cause. No one was injured.

Meanwhile, crews from Selby and West Yorkshire were dealing with incidents in the Selby area.

At 7.48pm on Sudforth Lane near Eggborough, a crew from Selby responded to a report of a fire seen in a field. They found a combine harvester smoking in the field.

Crews liaised with the farmer to extinguish hot spots and dampened down the surrounding area.

Then at 8.15am crews were called to a fire in a field at Kellington Grange, Selby. They put out the fire which measured approximately 100m.

There were also fires in the open at Cornwall Road, Harrogate, Gateforth Lane, Hambleton, Malton Road, Seamer, and Lady Ediths Drive, Scarborough.

And in a non-weather related incident, crews responded to a tree falling on a car at St Winifreds Road, Harrogate.

They were called out at 1.35am. A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “On arrival crews found that the tree had fallen onto the pavement area and had caused some damage to a car on a nearby drive.

“The tree had also damaged a telegraph wire which the crews made safe to await the arrival of the telephone company to deal with. Crews cordoned off the area and gave advice to a responsible person.”
