Well-loved attraction the Yorkshire Air Museum has a new boss.
He is Jonathan Brewer, who joins the museum from a leading role in the National Trust.
Jonathan takes over as director from Ellie Stead. She took the role on an interim basis after the previous full-time director, Barbara George, left in January for a position at York Minster.
In his last job, Jonathan oversaw the National Trust’s West Yorkshire portfolio, including Nostell Priory and Hardcastle Crags, which attracts nearly half a million visitors a year.
He has previously worked for the Youth Hostel Association and lives in Knaresborough.
“The change for me in focusing all my energies on one really special place and growing the support of visitors, partners and community is a big pull towards this role,” Jonathan said.
“The Yorkshire Air Museum is such an important and inspiring place that I am honoured to become part of what will be a successful and exciting future.”
The attraction is one of the largest independent air museums in the UK. It has more than 40 aircraft in its collection, including the only Halifax bomber of its type still around.
Based on the site of RAF Elvington, which was a Second World War bomber base, the museum is also home to the Allied Air Forces Memorial.
