All Saint’s Church on North Street in York has launched a flower festival inspired by its historic stained glass windows.
The church was awarded a National Lottery Heritage Fund grant to restore and preserve its historic stained glass – and now it has inspired something equally as beautiful.
The glass was used as inspiration for the festival’s floral creations, which were made by students from Askham Bryan College.
The Flower Festival will take place from Thursday 5 to Sunday 8 May.
The festival was opened this morning (Thursday) by the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of York. Ben Fry, York’s Town Crier, was also in attendance to declare the festival open.
The festival is free to attend and anyone is welcome to join the festivities. Refreshments will also be available.
After the festival, the creations will be turned into bouquets and left across the city for the public to find and take home – or perhaps give to someone else to brighten their day!
Davis Titchener, chair of The Friends of All Saints, said: “After the recent renovation and restoration of All Saint’s incredible historic stained glass windows, we are thrilled to be hosting a festival inspired by their design.
“The glass is not only of great quality, but is also of exceptional interest, with windows depicting rare, and in one instance unique, subjects in stained glass.
“We can’t wait to welcome everyone to the church to join in on the celebrations.”
All Saint’s Church is open daily from 10am to 4pm.
