A York DJ is hosting a musical evening to raise awareness for climate change – as part of DJs For Climate Action.
Jon Baker-Hood, otherwise known as DJ Upside Your Mind, is taking part in the fifth annual Earth Night with an evening of music.
York will be just one city marking the event, with similar events taking place around the world in over 20 cities such as Bucharest, Melbourne, New York and San José.
Inspired by the annual celebration of Earth Day – which aims to raise awareness of climate change – Earth Night was created in 2018 by organisation DJs for Climate Action (DJS4CA) as a way to engage the nightlife community with climate action.
The evening will take place at Sotano on Saturday 23 April from 10pm.
DJS4CA have created an album – which will be played during the event – in collaboration with Greenpeace and producers around the world which uses field recordings from nature to create its tracks.
It was manufactured sustainably, using non-PVC materials.
The event aims to be sustainable and will follow guidelines set out by the DJS4CA.
- No use of single use plastic – all food and drink consumables must either be re-usable, recyclable or compostable
- Sustainability – the event will be candle lit only and electricity energy readings will be taken before and after the event to monitor the usage and an energy estimate created. Trees will be planted to recoup the carbon footprint of the night
- Use local – Sotano is a champion of local produce and will be providing local food and drink
- Support the community – Jon will be collecting donations for St. Nicks
For more information please visit the DJS4CA website.
The event is free but there is a suggested donation amount between £2 and £5.
