York City won’t be heading to Wembley for the FA Trophy final after an agonising defeat at the last hurdle.
Bromley, in the league above, beat City 3-1 and will play Wrexham in the final on 22 May.
The home club had to come from behind to win the game.
Cheered on by a massive away support of 1,000 fans, City had high hopes as they kicked off 15 minutes late, the delay allowing all the fans to safely get into the Hayes Lane ground.
The City contingent were soon in dreamland as Kurt Willoughby lashed the ball into the net – just 100 seconds into the game.
York went on to dominate the first half, creating several excellent chances. But they didn’t score again, and went into the break one goal up.
However, a revived Bromley took the game to City in the second half. Two goals by Michael Cheek and one in injury time by James Alabi meant this wasn’t our year for cup glory.
But York should be proud of a great effort by the team – and massive support again from the City faithful. Here’s how the game panned out in Tweets, pix and videos.
