A man has been jailed for four years for a vicious attack in York city centre.
Connor Briggs, 25, stabbed the victim twice, York Crown Court heard.
The victim, who was named in court, suffered two stab wounds, one of which was six inches’ deep.
He required hospital treatment to have his wounds closed following the incident on September 15 last year.
Prosecutor Michael Cahill said Briggs was arrested at York Railway Station and hauled into custody, where police found a small amount of cannabis on him.
Briggs, of Brook Street, York, was charged with wounding with intent, possessing a blade and possession of a Class B drug.
He admitted the offences and appeared for sentence on Monday.
Mr Cahill said Briggs had previous convictions including offences against the person. In 2016, he was sentenced to four-and-a-half-years in a young offenders’ institution for a knifepoint robbery.
He said Briggs posed a “high risk” to members of the public and police.
Jailing Briggs for four years, Mr Recorder Wheeler told him he would have to serve two-thirds of that sentence behind bars.
The judge said that Briggs would also have to serve an extended two-year period on prison licence upon his eventual release from jail.
