Ever thought, ‘what TV needs is a dating show where an American woman is wooed by suitors all pretending to live in Regency England’?
No, us neither. But someone not only dreamed it up, but made the show – and filmed it in North Yorkshire!
US network NBC took over Castle Howard for two months to create The Courtship – tag line: ‘Swiping is out… Courting is in’.
“A heroine looking for her duke will sign up for the ultimate social experiment in romance,” the show’s makers say.
“Transported to a Regency-style England, a group of eligible hopeful suitors will have to win the heart of our heroine, and her court.”
As you can see from the trailer, it’s all slightly bonkers – but Castle Howard looks mighty fine.
Various American men dressed up to the nines try to curry favour with the heroine, Nicole Remy, a software engineer from Seattle who was previously a cheerleader for the Seattle Seahawks.
They take her on carriage rides, boating trips around the lake and to archery tournaments, all on the stately home estate.
A spokesperson for Castle Howard told YorkMix: “We can confirm that Castle Howard was used as the filming location for the upcoming television series The Courtship.
“Filming at Castle Howard took place last August and September, and the show is due to be released in the USA on 6 March.”
Presented by Rick Edwards, who co-hosts the BBC Radio 5 Live breakfast show, it should also be available to watch in the UK on Peacock, the NBC’s streaming service, which is on Sky.
After reaching international audiences with adaptations of Brideshead Revisited in the past, Castle Howard has found global fame again as one of the locations for historical drama Bridgerton, a smash hit on Netflix.
Season 2 is about to hit the streaming service soon.
