A school in York has won a gold award for being Hedgehog Friendly.
It was presented by the British Hedgehog Preservation society
Lord Deramore’s pupils built a special hideout for the mammals and hedgehog highways too.
They also made log piles, cleared litter up and listened to a presentation from Hedgehog Cottage Rescue too.
Year Six teacher Helen Smith said the children had been fascinated by the images they had captured on cameras too. “It was a wonderful worthwhile project to be involved in. They were even able to help sick hedgehogs before taking them to Urchins Hedgehog care”
Sydney Allison, a year six pupil said: “I’m so glad we are hedgehog champions but, more importantly, we are saving the lives of hedgehogs too.”
