There will be another daytime closure of the Selby bypass swing bridge – but the date has now changed.
It will now be closed on Tuesday, 1 February between 9am and 1pm for maintenance work unless they find any issues, in which case it may be longer.
It will mean diversions and of course delays. which have a knock on effect for the whole district, leading one councillor to call again for a solution.

Cllr Mike Jordan from the Selby District Council, who is also on the North Yorkshire authority too, says the problem is the bridge just doesn’t get opened enough and tends to seize up when it does.
He’s been calling on the Highways department at Northallerton to introduce test swings every week so that any problems can be found then rather than during a rare swing for a marine vessel to pass.
“Most of the time is the mechanical parts breaking down rather than the electrical parts. And so, and there’s a huge cost involved in that. And obviously, it’s hugely disruptive for Selby Town Centre, when the bypass closes.
“The council say they have their own methods which still work. Now, I challenge that because, as I say, they’re closing it at the worst time of day again
“Why couldn’t they have done this at night?”
