This is the stylish new restaurant which could soon open next to the river in York.
York Marina has submitted plans to add the Winter Garden restaurant to boost income which has been hit by the pandemic.
The family that run the marina say the restaurant would offer an “amazing view” and create jobs.

“The Marina has suffered over the last 20 months from the downturn in the hospitality trade, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. But has adapted its catering trade to offer well ventilated outdoor dining,” planning documents state.
Now they are looking for a permanent dining offer for guests “who require a more informal range of complementary services, food and drink in a more permanent dining space overlooking the river”.
It would be “a well-ventilated safe space, and thus attract more visitors and allow the Marina to offer an event service”.
‘Superb’ design
In the documents, the owners described the planned restaurant as a “high spec, slim frame, aluminium and glass ‘winter garden’ restaurant”.
The 130-cover restaurant, complete with new bar, would be “unobtrusive with it being fully glazed and the design is superb”.
They add: “This facility will also provide a level access for disabled guests and make the running of the outside dining area much more efficient from a service point of view, as well as providing an amazing view of the river, wildfowl, and surrounding countryside.
“As a family business, to enable us to compete with the larger destination centres and maintain our position in the market, it is essential from a business perspective that we breathe fresh life and hope into the business, and provide what our customers are asking for.
“We need this new development to take it forwards not only to get us back to where we were pre-pandemic, but to look forward to a brighter and sustainable future.”
The plans would create jobs “for over 12 people”.
