A York MP has told the Prime Minister that Covid infection rates in York ‘are on a par with London – apart from they’re still rising sharply’.
But Boris Johnson dismissed her concerns, saying she was ‘pro-lockdown’.
Rachael Maskell quizzed Mr Johnson in the Commons this afternoon (Wednesday).

She said: “Letting Covid rip through our communities has come at such serious cost, placing new burdens on business, putting more risk on our health and care system, and also an unnecessary cost to lives.
“In York infection rates are on a par with London – apart from they’re still rising sharply.
“Can the Prime Minister explain not only why tests are being rationed, but also why there is a doubling of the contact tracing time which is released to our local authorities, delaying that vital opportunity to lock down the virus quickly?”
Mr Johnson replied: “I know that the honourable lady opposite is pro lockdown. I don’t think that’s the right way forward.
“We’re taking a balanced and a proportionate approach and that’s what this country’s going to do.”
