York folk were wondering – would we soon have two Costa Coffee outlets within yards of one another?
Even the most ardent caffeine lover might have found that a bit much.
Now we have the answer: No. As the large new Costa Coffee opened on Parliament Street today (Thursday), the branch just a teaspoon’s throw away on Market Street has closed.
A sign on the Market Street window says: “This store is now permanently closed,” and directs customers to the Museum Street and Parliament Street branches.
Meanwhile, the Parliament Street Costa has been welcoming its first customers to what was the old Disney store.
However the closure of the other Costa, which is on the corner of Feasegate, does leave that street struggling.
Almost every unit on Feasegate is now empty.
