Paul said he felt proud to receive the medal and feels very lucky and privileged to have a job that he absolutely loves.
He recently launched a fundraising campaign after a family devastated by a fatal crash near York had their house burgled.
Paul attended the crash between a motorhome and an HGV on the A64 near Jinnah Restaurant at Flaxton, in which a mother and two children died.
The father and son survivors returned home from hospital only to find it had been ransacked by burglars. Paul set up a fundraiser hoping to raise £1,000 to replace the stolen items.
In fact it raised £21,000 – which he described as “truly amazing”
