But this year, Hallowscream is back – and the organisers say it’s ‘bigger, badder and scarier than ever’.

Last year, the event was cancelled due to Covid restrictions – although the Hallowtween daytime event for children aged ten to 15 was able to go ahead.
York Maze owner Tom Pearcy said: “When we cancelled Hallowscream last year I promised we’d be back bigger, badder and scarier than ever for 2021.
“I’m making good on that promise and this year we are expanding with extra nights and new entertainment for an action-packed series of 16 terrifying Hallowscream nights and six ghoulish Hallowtween days.
“As well as the five scare houses, visitors to Hallowscream will be treated to a spectacular new fire and light show with lasers and projection mapping, a new stage show featuring death defying performances of illusion and magic, a new food court and new fairground rides.”

More than 200 staff are needed for Hallowtween and Hallowscream including over 100 actors, 50 makeup artists, bar staff, chef’s, cleaners, and an operations team of over 50.
Finding staff has been a challenge this year, says Tom, although “many of our amazing team who couldn’t work here in 2019 are dying to come back”.
