Meet the finalists…

Noah Farr

When Noah was born at 36 weeks, he immediately stopped breathing. He was rushed to Leeds General Infirmary to save his life – without his parents even seeing him.

Noah’s first day of life was spent in surgery for almost 12 hours. He was diagnosed with Oesophageal Atresia (OA) and Tracheo-Oesophageal Fistula (TOF), VACTERL association, and an atrial septal defect (ASD) – or a hole in his heart.

He spent the first three months of his life in hospital with his family by his side.

Since then, Noah has had over 50 operations, with more to come in the future.

One person who nominated Noah said, “None of it fazes him.

“He’s the sassiest little boy!”

Sam Nendick

Last year, eighteen-year-old Sam witnessed a collision between a cyclist and a lorry as he drove towards York.

Sam immediately got out of his car and was the first on the scene to help the cyclist – an elderly man – while the lorry driver called an ambulance.

Sam and another passerby checked his pulse and breathing – once it became clear that the man wasn’t breathing they alternated to perform CPR.

Once the emergency services arrived, Sam assisted in any way he could.

Unfortunately they were unable to save him.

Someone who nominated Sam said, “For such a young man of 18 years of age to attempt to deal with such a tragic and difficult situation to attempt to do his best, which he did – we were extremely proud.”

Jess Lee

Jess has faced some devastating personal tragedies – after losing her mother, father and stepfather.

One person who nominated Jess said, “she has recently faced the most horrendous time and all the way throughout has continued to put others before herself.

“Jess continues to be brave and deserves recognition for the continued love and support she gives when she is dying inside.”

Through the pandemic, Jess has carried on working as a teaching assistant and has shown the children love and care – through all her own hardships.

Congratulations to all of our finalists!

The winner of the Outstanding Bravery Award will be revealed in our Hero Awards ceremony at the Principal York on 8th October.

A big thank you to all our awards sponsors.
