A man was rescued from the wrong side of a bridge in York early this morning (Tuesday).
Emergency services were called to Ouse Bridge at 4.19am.
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said police requested their help “to assist in bringing an inebriated male from the wrong side of the bridge parapet back to safety”.

Fire crews from Acomb and Selby went on to the river in boats, and a crew from Malton was also mobilised. The York Rescue Boat volunteers joined fire crews in the water near the bridge.
“Firefighters used a working from height harness to bring the male back to safety where he was left in the care of paramedics,” the spokesperson said.
