York Barbican, we’ve missed you!
The venue is about to fully open its doors for the first time since the lockdowns began – and it has lined up a packed programme of star names from the worlds of music, comedy and TV.
And you’ll hear all the entertainment news first on YorkMix and YorkMix Radio. Because today we can proudly announce that YorkMix is the official media partner of York Barbican.
The news was revealed by Ben Fry on the YorkMix Radio Breakfast Show this morning.
Ben said: “The team at YorkMix and YorkMix Radio are delighted to announce that today we have become media partners of York Barbican as the venue gets ready to reopen.”
It means the first news on acts coming to York Barbican, exclusive interviews with the stars and big competitions will be on YorkMix Radio and online.
York Barbican’s marketing manager Jack Dunkerley welcomed the news: “We’re really happy to be working with you guys.
“I’m sure they’ll be loads of exciting stuff to come in the next few months. There’s plenty of announcements to come, lots of exciting shows – and we want to get people involved as we reopen the venue.”

He said the programme was “jam packed”. “All the gigs are coming back and it’s just a really exciting time to come to the venue at the moment.”
Ben launched the partnership by giving away tickets on his show to the Manic Street Preachers who play York Barbican on 4 October.
It has been a tough time for all live entertainment venues. York Barbican opened temporarily earlier this summer for Van Morrison gigs, but its full reopening is set for this Monday, 6 September, with Grayson Perry the first show.
Bands coming up in September include Del Amitri and Hawkwind. As well as the Manics, Scouting For Girls and Richard Thompson play the venue in October.
And Jack said the star stand-ups were selling well – these include Sarah Millican, Katherine Ryan and Jack Dee.
Jack couldn’t be happier that York Barbican is reopening. “We’re over the moon.
“We have a huge passion for live events – it’s so great to welcome people back and host some of the biggest names in York.”
