Queen Margaret’s School: ‘Huge endeavour’ of students reaped rewards

Queen Margaret’s School for Girls in Escrick, York, has today praised students for their “huge endeavour” of studying for A Levels over the last two unprecedented years, and still managing to achieve such exceptional results.

The day and boarding school for girls achieved a 100% A Level pass rate and is “especially proud” that, despite the difficult circumstances they’ve endured, 97% of girls achieved or exceeded their ALIS (A Level Information System) targets.

Queen Margaret’s students had to study for their A Levels remotely all over the globe during lockdown. Local girl Gabriella, from York, achieved three A* grades (plus an A* in her Extended Project Qualification) and has secured a place to study Psychology at the University of York; while Jane, who spent lockdown in China and secured four A* grades and one A, and will go on to study Physics at UCL.

In total, 95% of all Queen Margaret’s A Level entries gained A-B grade (77% of entries were A*-A grades).

Queen Margaret’s head Sue Baillie said: “We say ‘Our Girls Take on the World’ and with these results they really have proven that they do; they have tackled A Levels and in the midst of a global pandemic, they have shown such resilience and their success is so very well-deserved.”
