But happily the 200 Degrees Coffee Shop finally flings open its doors on Low Petergate tomorrow (Tuesday).
It’s a big place, with 82 seats. The former LK Bennett clothes shop has been completely transformed after a £300K transformation.
The wood and copper tones give the place a stylish modern vibe. At the front the baristas are ready to serve you – the café has created 15 jobs.
Friendly staff
200 Degrees was set up by Tom Vincent and Rob Darby in 2012 and now has 14 ‘distinctively independent’ coffee shops as well as its Roast House near Trent Bridge in its home town, Nottingham.
But no café has had taken as long to open as the one in York.
Rob told YorkMix: “We did find the shop we’re sat in now some two years ago. We’d agreed terms with the landlord and we had all of our planning permissions in place.
“And we were we were ready to start building in just a week or so time when the Covid pandemic hit, in March last year. So that’s put things on hold for a bit longer. But we stuck with it.
“But now we’re here and we’re ready to open – and we’re really, really pleased with the outcome.”

Shop manager Megan Pritchard, 24, said: “If you come in here, we’ve got really friendly staff. We want to get to know you. It’s not just order a coffee, sit down and leave.
“We want to talk to you want to make sure that you feel safe with us. We get to know each person individually – like a real community.”
