Police said they dealt with ‘a very high number of violent incidents’ in York city centre last night (Saturday).
The end of the first Saturday since restrictions were lifted, after a day which saw 30,000 attend the races, added up to a challenging night shift for officers.
Special Constable Williscroft said on Twitter: “Unfortunately a very high number of violent incidents. Please stay safe everyone.”

Among the more minor incidents reported overnight included a women stealing a sign off the door of a bar in Stonegate.
And the White Horse on Bootham reported that a group of five men, one of whom was sick inside the pub, got aggressive when told to leave.
One of the group then threatened door staff on the way out.
