The National Centre for Early Music (NCEM) is gearing up for its second online festival.
The York Early Music Festival Online (YEMF) will take place from Thursday 15 to Sunday 18 July 2021.
The theme for the festival this year is ‘Encounters’, which celebrates the connection between artist and audience but also to represent a time when real-life encounters continue to be restricted.
YEMF online will work in tandem with the in-person York Early Music Festival 2021, which will take place from 12 to 15 July. Tickets for the in-person festival are limited due to Covid.
The online festival provides the opportunity to share some of the highlights of York Early Music Festival 2021 with the widest possible audience.

The four-day online festival will open with a concert from British vocal consort The Gesualdo Six, live streamed from St. Margaret’s Church in York.
Guest artists will also feature, including internationally acclaimed musicians such as violinist Rachel Podger and the Monteverdi String Band, and a York favourite – harpsichordist Steven Devine.
A celebration of music
Delma Tomlin MBE, administrative director of the YEMF said: “We’re very excited to bring you the second York Early Music Festival Online.
“We’re delighted that many artists will be returning to York to join us for what promises to be a summer celebration of glorious music. We’re also looking forward to welcoming artists who have not performed with us before, to our beautiful city.
“This has been a difficult year for everyone involved in the arts and entertainment industries and we hope you will support us and make the most of the delights that this year’s online festival has in store.”

The online festival will be available to view on demand until 13 August 2021 and tickets are on sale until 6 August.
