A woman jumped from a bridge into the river in York last night (Thursday) – prompting a major rescue operation.
North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service got a call from police at 7.23pm that the woman had leapt from Ouse Bridge.
It mobilised its water rescue team in response.
The York Rescue Boat was also scrambled and went to the scene.
A fire service spokesperson said: “Shortly afterwards, a repeat call – again from police – stated that female was now safely on a sandbank and out of danger.”
The woman was placed in the care of an ambulance crew.
