Things to do

Castle Howard fully reopens today – allowing Bridgerton fans can see where some of the key scenes were filmed.

Netflix hit Bridgerton has been streamed 84 million times around the globe. Castle Howard stars as the fictional Clyvedon Castle, home to Daphne Bridgerton and Simon Basset in the drama.

To reflect that, the stately home has put on a new exhibition.

Abbi Ollive of Castle Howard, told YorkMix Radio: “Bridgeton is set in the Regency period, and I think it’s shone a spotlight and piqued people’s interest in that period of history.

“Castle Howard was obviously around at that time with real members of the family living there.

“So we’ve done a little exhibition about what Regency times would have been like at Castle Howard. There’s a series of exhibition panels, which are beautifully designed, but we’ve also had a dig around in our costume archives, and we’ve got a couple of costumes that we’ve pulled out from that period.

“One’s been specially made, one is original from the archives.

“Then we’ve got some dressing throughout the state room. So you’ll see the dining room set as if a Regency dinner were about to happen.”

Starstruck visitors

Ben Fry of the BreakfastMix Show, asked Abbi Ollive if guides were ready to direct Bridgerton fans to the Castle Howard filming locations.

“Yes, of course. Bridgeton was filmed throughout a lot of the house, so there’s plenty of opportunities.

“During the morning, we’re open 10.30 until 1pm for free-flow guided tours. That’s a tour where you can take yourself around– we’ve got a fab digital guide with some audio and video.

“It’s voiced and narrated by Nick Howard himself, so you can stream that onto your phones – bring your headphones along.

“We do have our amazing room stewards in every room who can answer questions. But then we’ve decided at two o’clock every day to do an actual guided tour, and that will take you into some of the areas that are not on the visitor route.

“So that’s a really good opportunity as well to ask any Bridgerton or Brideshead or other filming questions people may have.”

Abbi said “there’s a great sense of excitement and anticipation now we can once again open the doors to some of these really special places”.
