A multi-agency response save three people who were on a boat sinking into the River Ouse in York.

Police, ambulance and fire crews, plus the York Rescue Boat, were called out to Bishopthorpe bridge at about 3am today.

The cruiser was taking on water, endangering the people still on board.

Fire crews from Acomb, York, Selby and Malton attended the incident.

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews removed the three people who were on the boat and took them to safety.

“They had a second boat so a crew accompanied them to gain access to their second boat. Meanwhile crews secured the boat that was taking on water using 30m line.”

York Fire Station tweeted: “Great emergency service response and team effort.”
