A freight train has derailed in the Church Fenton area – causing major problems on the line between York and Leeds.
The derailment happened at 2.43am today (Tuesday).
As a result trains between Leeds and York via Church Fenton will be cancelled or diverted. This is expected for a large part of the day.
Northern Trains tweeted: “Services through these stations may be cancelled or delayed by up to 60 mins. Church Fenton and York wont be served. Disruption is expected until 13:30.”
The first affected service from Leeds was the 06:10 Leeds to York, which terminated at Micklefield.
The first affected service from York is the 07.07 York – Leeds which will start from Micklefield at 07:22 for stations to Leeds.
Rail replacement buses will run between Leeds and York. These will be operated by R&S Waterson, Elite Minibus Travel, TJ’s Travel Leeds, Shaws of Whitely and York Pullman.
Northern tickets will be valid on Transpennine Express, LNER and CrossCountry services between Leeds, York and Doncaster.

- CrossCountry between Plymouth / Bristol Temple Meads / Penzance / Birmingham New Street and Newcastle, between Leeds / Birmingham New Street / Plymouth / Bristol Temple Meads and Edinburgh
- LNER between Leeds and Aberdeen
- Northern between Leeds / Hull and York and also between Garforth and Church Fenton
- TransPennine Express between Manchester Piccadilly and York, between Liverpool Lime Street and Newcastle / Edinburgh and also between Manchester Victoria and York / Redcar Central
