There’s a large police presence in York tonight after a disturbance in the city centre.
Disorder centred on St Helen’s Square and Blake Street led to at least four arrests.
Seven police vans responded to the incident, shortly before 10pm. A Police Prisoner Transport van was also on the scene.
Some of the young people were challenging police and refusing to leave, which led to the arrests.
It was witnessed by drinkers at the outside tables at the Impossible Bar on the square.
One witness said: “All of a sudden the city came alive with sirens and police cars.
“There appeared to have been verbal confrontations between some young people and police, but no violence. I heard one senior police officer ordering someone to leave the city.”
Calm has since been restored.
