Snakes on Shambles, the Maze going bananas, a Yorkshire Pudding theme park and the town crier getting a truly impressive honour…
They were all eyebrow-raising stories this morning – until you looked at the date.

Shambles serpents
Wizard emporium The Potions Cauldron slithered in on the act after releasing this alarming poster, which stated that 1,000 snakes kept in its Shambles shop had escaped down the famous street.
The reptiles were needed to make the Cauldron’s Serpents Venom lemonade, apparently…
This one prompted some good punning work from The Silver Crooner! on Twitter: “Another snake sighting in York at Thomas’ Bakers – early reports say it could be a Piethon!”
Bananas at the Maze
Farmer and York Maze owner Tom Pearcy “came a cropper with killjoy health and safety officials this week when it was revealed he plans to make his famous maze out of banana bushes, rather than corn plants”.
Or so he led us to believe…
Tom Pearcy said: “Global warming has meant that Yorkshire now has the perfect climate for growing bananas, so I thought I would give it a try. I didn’t think anyone would notice as they look very similar to corn cobs but taste much better!”
But according to this elaborate story, “a bunch of health and safety people came out for an emergency visit raising ‘corncerns’ about the risk of slips and trips from discarded banana skins. It’s political correctness gone mad!” he said.
If you fell for this one, consider yourself bananas!

Yorkshire Pud Land
And to finish, here’s one from slightly further afield, but it made us smile.
The Real Yorkshire Pudding Co announced they were to open a brand new theme park this summer: Yorkshire Pud Land!
It would feature rides like the Gravy Boating Lake and Pud Mountain, said the Doncaster-based company.
Tourism team Welcome To Yorkshire were also in on the joke. We really hope this one comes true!
