Welcome to the all-new York.

When the city reopens fully after lockdown, residents and visitors will have plenty of new places to try.

Chair of the York Retail Forum Phil Pinder tweeted last night: “Proof if it was needed that York High Street is very much alive.

“Heard news of 5 new openings in not as many days! Great to be playing a little part in helping some of these happen.”

Two of these are getting to ready to reopen within yards of each other… and it’s a dream duo for anyone with a sweet tooth.

And these follow news that new golf attraction the Hole In Wand is opening on Coppergate, the Trailfinders travel agency is to open on Stonegate and the Little Gym is opening at LNER Community Stadium.

How Heavenly Desserts is looking

Heavenly Desserts is due to open on Blake Street soon, in what was the Van Mildert shop.

Founded in 2008, Heavenly Desserts operates as a franchise. It now has more than 30 outlets in the UK – including in Leeds and Sheffield.

It offers sweet treats to eat-in and takeaway.

On the menu will be everything from chocolate shots, waffles, pies, cookie dough, Italian ice cream and more.

The York outlet will open midday to midnight seven days a week.

You can find more on the Heavenly Desserts website.

Sweet shop

Just round the corner, the Kingdom of Sweets is preparing to open.

Established in April 2004 it describes itself as “one of the largest confectionery retailers in the UK”.

It offers a huge range of chocolates and sweets, including speciality imports from the USA and more.

“We stock all of the classics like Hershey Kisses, Jolly Ranchers and Butterfingers, but it doesn’t stop there!” the website says.

“We’ve also got your great American breakfast sorted with cereals like Lucky Charms and a huge range of Pop Tarts, and best of all, we’ve now got an array of classic American sodas to wash everything down with.”

You can also go for the Pick’n’Mix option, choosing to buy by weight, from 500g all the way up to a whopping 2kg.

There are even speciality brands of York favourites – KitKat Lemon Crisp anyone?

The York store will be its 15th. Some of its shops open until as late as 11pm.
