Six things I’m desperate to do in in York when lockdown eases

Wed 10 Mar

Cocktails anyone?

I think I speak for the whole country when I say we’re longing for 17 May to arrive, when most of the lockdown restrictions are eased – it will like Christmas!

For now, all we can do is dream about what we’ll be doing on that exciting day. Here’s what I’m most looking forward to doing once York opens up:

Breakfast at Brew and Brownie

Starting off the day, I’ll be headed to Brew and Brownie for breakfast, likely opting for a whopping pancake stack. Their amazing menu is full of local produce, great coffee and a cake selection to die for. This is how to start the day right!

Retail Therapy

Seeing as we’ve been dressing to the nines just to pop to the supermarket recently, some retail therapy is definitely on the agenda (I can’t believe we’ll have gone 5 whole months without proper shopping). Some of my York favourites that I’ll most definitely be visiting are Chinese Lantern, Urban Outfitters and HMV.

Picnic and boats

It’s the middle of the day, I’m starting to get hungry, restaurant queues are around the block, what’s the plan? I’m heading to York Museum Gardens for a picnic with friends, followed by a walk by the river with the sun shining on my skin, and maybe even a ride on the rowing boats (I’ve always wanted to try them!)

Van Gogh experience

Speaking of things I’ve been meaning to try, the Van Gogh Experience in Castlegate is something I’ve been walking past and pointing out for two years now, but have never got the chance to head inside. I’ve seen pictures of how beautiful it is, so this is definitely something on my to-do list as soon as it reopens.

Dinner and drinks

Something I’ve especially been missing is dining out at restaurants for delicious food and visiting my favourite cocktail bars for some tropical tastes. I’ll be rushing to some of York’s finest, including Fancy Hanks, Manhatta and Oscars. Then, who could resist one or two cocktails (I know I couldn’t) at Revolution, Slug and Lettuce and Lucia.

Entertainment

The live entertainment industry has taken such an economical hit since the pandemic, so we need to support it all we can once we’re allowed! Some shows I’m looking forward to in York are Alan Carr’s ’Not Again, Alan!’ in December and Sarah Millican’s ‘Bobby Dazzler’ in November.

What are you most looking forward to doing when restrictions start being lifted?
