Drivers and pedestrians were told to avoid Lendal bridge in York after a woman went into the River Ouse, from the bridge, at around 12.10pm today.
Emergency Services have been at the scene searching the river for the woman. York Rescue boat is also assisting the in the operation.
The road over the bridge has now reopend to traffic.
The Yorkshire Air Ambulance was also called in and landed in Museum Gardens.
Traffic using the inner-ring road has been backing up and there have been delays around the station and Nunnery Lane as well as Bootham and Gillygate.
Police said this evening they have been searching in the river and along the bank but there is no further information to report.
