When former TV chef Jennie Cook first planted this Christmas tree in her garden at Bishopthorpe in 2010 it was half her size.
Now ten years later it’s four times as tall as her and she thinks it’s time it was sold off to a large venue to raise funds for her favourite charities.
Jennie Cook, orginally from Malaysia, ran a guest house with her husband on Bishopthorpe Road and was well known for her TV and radio work showing how to prepare delicious meals inspired by her native cuisine.
She is enjoying retirement now and says that the tree she planted when she moved in has never stopped growing.
“It’s too big for the garden now” she told YorkMix. “I am worried the roots might start to undermine the foundations so I thought it would be nice to use it to raise cash for Macmillan Cancer Support and the York Rheumatoid Artritis Support Group.”
Jennie is hoping it will be of interest to a big hotel or venue in the York area which may be looking for the perfect centre piece for Christmas.
