They are very definitely hot seats.
Ever since York City FC announced plans to sell off parts of its historic Bootham Crescent ground, people have been waiting to snap up the place where they sat down.
And now seats in the main stand, popular stand, family stand, and directors box are up for sale.
Hundreds of people have registered their interest in buying one or more of the seats.
They probably want to park their posterior for posterity in the same spot where they cheered on the Minstermen through the decades.
And let’s face it, there have been plenty of occasions when it was ‘squeaky bum time’ for City’s supporters…
Fans first
With prices starting at £25, it’s a small price to pay for some genuinely historic footballing memorabilia.
The club said: “The wooden seats in the main stand will be a prized possession. The seats are the oldest example in the country and have sparked a great deal of outside interest.
“The popular stand – the oldest plastic seats – and the family stand seats have received interest from other clubs in the country.”
Fans get the first chance to buy though.
“All seats will initially go on sale to our supporters,” the club promised. “Season tickets holders’ seats will be reserved and will have priority to purchase their seat.”

- Popular stand – tilting plastic seats: £30
- Family stand – tilting plastic seats: £36
- Main stand – tilting wooden seating £60
- Directors box – tilting wooden seating, padded seat £50
- Directors box – tilting wooden seating, maroon padded seat £66

More than a thousand people have registered their interest in buy a bit of Bootham Crescent, which has been City’s home since 1932.
Based on their replies, the club is selling the non-seat items in two very different auctions.
Expensive and antique items will be sold by an appointed auction house. This will cover things like the board room furniture, the antique turnstiles, floodlights, stands, metal fencing etc.
Signage, picket fencing, sections of crush barriers, pieces of terracing, bricks and so on will be sold by an auction hosted by the club – with items going to the highest bidder.
