It’s been announced that Gerald, one of the York Minster cats, has died.
He was one of two Bengals who lived and roamed within the precinct of York Minster. He leaves behind his brother Donald.
Gerald was found very early on Monday morning next to St Michael Le Belfrey on the pedestrianised South Piazza.
The bells at York Minster rang out yesterday afternoon as a tribute to the memory of the much photographed pet.
At this stage the cause of death is unknown.
Justine Spencer, who looked after Gerald on Chapter House Street, said he was well known and well loved in York and will be missed by many.
She told YorkMix that Gerald was laid to rest in his favourite place next to York Minster by kind permission of the Dean of York.
