Micklegate has reopened after the police incident which saw the street sealed off for several hours.
York police first closed the street at about 10.15pm last night, but tweeted that it had reopened at 2.23am this morning (Wednesday, 19 August).
According to witnesses a man was on the roof of a building close to Micklegate bar, and was seen throwing objects.
A police negotiator was sent to the scene as people were prevent coming through the bar.
Police said today: “Thank you for your patience whilst emergency services responded to the earlier incident on Micklegate in York.
“A 52 year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of affray and criminal damage.”
He was later released on conditional bail.
Police are now asking for the public’s help establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
In particular, officers are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed or have footage of the incident, or who may have had property damaged during it. If you can help, contact North Yorkshire Police.
