After agonising disappointment in the playoffs, York City today made it clear they are rebuilding for next season.
Manager Steve Watson has signed an extension to his contract. He and assistant manager Micky Cummins are staying on for another season.
Club chairman Jason McGill said: “The club had a great 2019/2020 campaign, we finished top of the league and were primed for promotion, which is testimony to Steve, his staff and players.
“We have been impressed with his approach, both on and off the pitch, and look forward to seeing what Steve can do this coming season.”
But the playing staff will look very different next season.
Thirteen players have not been offered a new contract and have been released by York City – including top scorer Jordan Burrow.
Eight players are in discussions with the club and might stay.
Three players – including two goalkeepers – are under contract and are staying.
