Something very curious is going on in The Museum Gardens. On Wednesday 30th October, the Yorkshire Museum will be holding a special after-hours event, In The Museum Night Garden
.
This unique event, which is running as part of the Illuminating York Festival, will give guests an insight into the bustling night-life in The Museum Gardens. Think foxes and owls rather than Wetherspoons on a Friday.
On the night from 5pm-9pm, a section of the Gardens, The Hospitium as well as a fairy lit story-telling marquee will provide the backdrop to an enchanting evening designed for families to enjoy. And unlike some events in Illuminating York it’s free!
Visitors can expect to find a range of activities, including fire artists and the Cosmodome, where they are invited to wander through a huge dome of the night sky and spot faraway planets.
They will also have the chance to look at the real night sky with the help of the York Astronomical Society.
Other things to see include an intriguing, if not slightly eerie, display of nocturnal animal taxidermy. There will also be hedgehog mapping and plenty of craft stalls.
Emma Williams, the museum’s assistant curator of science and archaeology learning, said: “We wanted to create an event that was informative, but entertaining and fun at the same time.
“In the Museum Night Garden is going to have something for everyone and promises to give guests an insight into the night life that is abundant in York Museum Gardens.”
